‘Blessed With A Curse’ is the third single and video from the critically acclaimed studio album There Is A Hell Believe Me I’ve Seen It, There Is A Heaven Let’s Keep It A Secret, and this single slots in perfectly with the sound that BMTH have become known for of late.
It is an overwhelmingly stunning track. It opens with a simple guitar melody filled in with sustain and echo that falls out of the soundscape leaving a haunting silence. Add this to the cutting vocals of Oliver Sykes that are so contrapuntal to the overall sound that somehow it works, and you have metal music like you’ve never heard before. By the chorus, we abandon serenity and are thrown into a dense and powerful sound from the whole band, yet this change doesn’t feel forced or contrived. It is a track founded on surprising natural progression; a single that is quite an achievement. BMTH continue to push the boundaries of what it means to be a contemporary rock and metal artist, and this latest musical and videographic offering is superb.
