George Ezra has come fifth in the BBC’s Sound of 2014 poll.

The announcement was made this morning on Nick Grimshaw’s BBC Radio 1 breakfast show. Ezra is the first act to be announced in the shortlist.

The annual list is voted for by 170 of the UK’s top journalists, broadcasters and tastemakers, and aims to draw attention to some of the most promising new musical acts.

George Ezra also featured on The Edge’s THE LIST 2014 which also tipped some of the most exciting acts of 2014. The Bristolian has received praise from BBC Introducing for the last two years, also supporting previous Sound Of… nominees Lianne La Havas and Tom Odell on tour.

The long list of 15 acts nominated for the prestigious poll was unveiled last month, and featured artists including Ella Eyre, MNEK and Say Lou Lou. Last year, Scottish three-piece CHVRCHES landed fifth in the poll, while Haim went on to win the accolade.

The other four acts in the shortlist will be announced each morning this week by Nick Grimshaw.
