Tina Fey and Amy Poehler to return to the Golden Globes until 2015

Following the amazingly rating-boosting hosting gig earlier this January for the Golden Globes, the comedic due are back until 2015. It was announced on Tuesday that Tina Fey (Saturday Night Live, 30 Rock) and Amy Poehler (Saturday Night Live, Parks and Recreation) are to host the 71st annual Golden Globe awards and 72nd Golden Globes.

A tweet on the official Golden Globe Awards Twitter page on Tuesday read: ‘Tina Fey and Amy Poehler to return as hosts of the 71st Annual Golden Globe Awards, and the 72nd in 2015. #Television #actors’.

This January’s Golden Globes had a 17% increase in ratings compared to 2012’s Ricky Gervais’ controversial hosting. Poehler even joked about Ricky’s 3 year run in their opening monologue; “We want to assure you that we have no intention of being edgy or offensive tonight because, as Ricky learned the hard way, when you run afoul of the Hollywood Foreign Press, they make you host this show two more times.” So it would seem that was accomplished. The comedic due are both SNL veterans and are used to the pressure of live TV and keeping things funny and entertaining, both of which they proved in their first hosting gig.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association gave a statement on Tuesday saying; “We are thrilled Amy and Tina have decided to return as hosts of the Golden Globe Awards for the next two years. Their return ensures that the Golden Globes will once again be the biggest, best and most entertaining awards celebration of the year.” By which NBC president of alternative and late night programming Paul Telegdy said: ‘Tina and Amy are two of the most talented comedic writer/performers in our business, and they were a major reason the Golden Globes was the most entertaining awards show of last season. We’re elated they wanted to host together again and that they committed for the next two years.”
