'Doing It To Death' is a solid release and a great return for the indie-rock duo.

Indie rock two-piece, The Kills, consisting of Alison Mosshart and Jamie Hince, formed back in 2000 and have released four successful studio albums. After a five year hiatus and five hand surgeries for Hince, the band have announced that their fifth studio album, Ash & Ice, is scheduled for release on 3rd June 2016. Ahead of their new album, The Kills have released their new single ‘Doing It To Death.’

The main thing that shines on the track is Mosshart’s powerful vocals, which stand out within the bluesy punk melody. That said, there is opportunity to appreciate Hince’s work in the frequent guitar solos that are dotted throughout ‘Doing It To Death’. The track doesn’t really explore new ground, but it does adhere to the signature sound that fans of the band know and love, which is exactly what you want to hear after the five year break.

For those that may have temporarily forgotten about the band in their absence, ‘Doing It To Death’ will certainly remind them of what the band do best. It is a solid release for the band and is a great way to return to the music scene.

‘Doing It To Death’ is out now via Domino Records.
