The Ramona Flowers – ‘Brighter’

0

If you’re wondering why the Bristol-based five piece The Ramona Flowers sound familiar, it’s because they share their name with a Scott Pilgrim character.

That’s where the cool comic-book similarities end though. The Ramona Flowers are a group who appear to mix electronica and indie with ease. Having supported Bastille on their recent tour, and having been remixed by Ladytron and Hot Chip, you can imagine that they’re ones to watch.

However, their offering, ‘Brighter’, doesn’t seem to be all that different to anything you’ll have heard before. The Ramona Flowers have created typical shoe-gazing indie, although it’s slightly more uplifting than some other tracks which fall into that category.

Steve Bird’s vocals are pleasant enough on the whole, but his shouting in the chorus distracts from the beautiful harmonies and relaxing instrumental which carries the rest of the song.

‘Brighter’ is worth a listen, even if only in the background. Very likely something you’ll be hearing in adverts soon.
