The Maccabees – Went Away

0

The Maccabees return with the second single from the long awaited third album Given to the Wild. ‘Went Away’ appears to me as a very natural second single. It has the pace of first single ‘Pelican’ whilst incorporating Orlando Weeks’ haunting vocals on the lulls. The guitar riffs and chant-like backing vocals help to build up the pace leading up to the chorus. I’m very excited to see how this fairs in the charts, although no matter where it ends up I’m sure it will get plenty of radio play. In my opinion the Brighton five piece have made a definite step in the right direction by releasing one of the more fast-paced tracks on the album, making the transition from Wall of Arms to the new sounds of Given to the Wild a lot smoother. Overall, a great song and definitely one to watch.

‘Went Away’ is released on 28th May 2012
