Bill Paxton passes away aged 61

Bill Paxton, the versatile actor from True Lives, Titanic and Aliens, as well as HBO’s Big Love has died today following complications after surgery.

Paxton commonly found himself playing military men and cowboys, and his close connection with James Cameron resulted in his appearance in many of the former’s films, including Aliens and Titanic, as well as Ron Howard’s 1995 hit Apollo 13 and Twister, in 1996.

A family representative confirmed the news in a statement today, saying: ‘A loving husband and father, Bill began his career in Hollywood working on films in the art department and went on to have an illustrious career spanning four decades as a beloved and prolific actor and filmmaker.’ He continued, adding, ‘ Bill’s passion for the arts was felt by all who knew him, and his warmth and tireless energy were undeniable.  We ask to please respect the family’s wish for privacy as they mourn the loss of their adored husband and father.’
