ITV has released the first trailer for the highly anticipated return of Broadchurch, after confirmation of its return being made on Twitter last month.
The trailer seems to promise dark new drama and discovery, all investigated under the work of character favourites DI Alec Hardy and DS Ellie Miller. This year’s storyline focuses on a sexual assault at a party and the following investigation to catch the culprit.
After the mixed reception of Broadchurch’s second series, actor Arthur Darvill has promised that the third series will be true to the originality of the first series. Darvill told Digital Spy: “I can’t tell you too much about it, but the subject matter of it is really heavy. I loved the second series of Broadchurch – I think it was really necessary to tell that part of the story – but I think this series has more of the feel of the first series.”
Following his support for the necessity of the second series, it can be said that the expectations for the third instalment have undoubtedly risen. With new cast members joining the ranks, two of the most notable being entertainer Sir Lenny Henry and ex-Corrie star Julie Hesmondhalgh, the new series looks promising.
The third instalment of the crime drama is set to air in February. You can catch the trailer for the third series below.
