It has been reported that Game of Thrones star Finn Jones has nabbed the role of Iron Fist in Netflix’s Marvel Defenders Universe.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the actor – who is perhaps best known for his role as Ser Loras Tyrell in the HBO fantasy show – has apparently nabbed the role of Danny Rand. Netflix have yet to confirm the news.

In the comics, Rand is a martial artist who is trained in the ancient fighting arts in the aftermath of a family tragedy. His alias, Iron Fist is closely associated with Luke Cage, as well as fellow Defenders, Daredevil and Jessica Jones.

The reaction to Jones’ apparent casting hasn’t been especially favourable, with many taking to Twitter to lambast the choice and discuss their hopes for an Asian actor to play the role.

The series, which has yet to receive a premiere date, will be run by Dexter writer, Scott Buck.
