We Are Your Friends receives one of the worst box office releases ever

Zac Efron’s latest flick has left a lot to be desired at the US box office, with one of the worst opening weekends of all time.

The Warner Bros produced film, We Are Your Friends, bombed at the box office with takings of $1.8 million despite being shown in 2,333 cinemas, making its takings just $758 per screen. Because of this, it has now been deemed one of the worst openings for a major Hollywood studio film ever.

Indeed, this disappointing first gross total has made the movie – which is about a 23 year-old DJ wannabe – the third worst opening of all time for a new studio film, according to Box Office Mojo.

The film has also received mixed reviews, with Rolling Stone’s Peter Travers stating that the film “never even breaks a sweat” and “does not entice the audience.” Our reviewer at The Edge, however, has awarded the film 3 stars.

The only films that have fared worse than this is 2012’s Oogieloves In The Big Balloon Adventure and Delgo which earned $442,901 and $511,920, respectively.
