Ian McShane will appear in the upcoming season of Game of Thrones.

The British actor, who is perhaps best known for his villainous performance in HBO’s Deadwood, is set to join the sixth season of the fantasy series in an as yet unspecified role.

Though details of his character are being kept tightly under wraps, Entertainment Weekly has reported that McShane will play a key role in the season’s plot, albeit with a small amount of screen time. Fans have already been quick to speculate over the character’s identity however, with many guessing that the actor will play Randyll Tarly (Father of Samwell) or possibly even Euron Greyjoy (Theon’s uncle).

McShane’s first claim to fame was in his beloved portrayal of rogue antiques dealer, Lovejoy in the BBC comedy-drama series of the same name. He has since gone on to appear in several Hollywood movies including Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Kung Fu Panda and Jack the Giant Slayer.

Meanwhile, it has been reported that Game of Thrones is likely to end after eight seasons. Production on season six has already begun, with the ten episodes expected to air in Spring 2016.
