COLT 45 cover ‘Gold’ by Spandau Ballet – watch

Punk trio COLT 45 have treated their fans to a cover of Spandau Ballet’s smash 80’s hit, ‘Gold’, before they get on to putting together their second studio album.

Drummer Adam Lewis said of their decision to cover the song:

Gold was an easy choice for us – we’re all 80’s kids and we all love the track, it’s just one of those feel good pop classics that everyone enjoys. I don’t care what your music taste is – you can be the biggest metalhead or gangsta hip-hop fan in the world, but when ‘Gold’ gets dropped, everybody’s getting off on it!

COLT 45 released their debut album, The Tide Is Turning, in July, last year. Lewis goes on to say how the band were surprised that the hit had never really been covered before and that they had fun putting the arrangement together:

“We were surprised that it hadn’t really been covered before, and we just thought we could put a cool COLT 45 spin on it – it works really well for a 3 piece band if I may say so myself. It was just a bit of fun really for the summer – we’re doing a lot of touring before we start work on our next album, and we’ve never really done any proper covers before – a few acoustic numbers here and there but nothing on record – so we wanted to do something a little different that was a bit outside of our comfort zone as well. We had a lot of fun arranging and recording the tune, and we hope everyone likes what we’ve done with it!”
