An official trailer for Guy Ritchie’s feature-length adaptation of The Man from U.N.C.L.E has been released.

The forthcoming spy film stars Man of Steel‘s Henry Cavill, Armie Hammer, Hugh Grant, Alicia Vikander and Jared Harris. Ritchie also co-wrote the script based on the 1960s TV series of the same name.

The official plot synopsis for the film teases:

Set against the backdrop of the early 1960s, at the height of the Cold War, The Man From U.N.C.L.E. centres on CIA agent Solo (Cavill) and KGB agent Kuryakin (Hammer). Forced to put aside longstanding hostilities, the two team up on a joint mission to stop a mysterious international criminal organisation, which is bent on destabilising the fragile balance of power through the proliferation of nuclear weapons and technology. The duo’s only lead is the daughter of a vanished German scientist (Vikander), who is the key to infiltrating the criminal organisation, and they must race against time to find him and prevent a worldwide catastrophe.

This is Ritchie’s first film since 2011’s Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows. Long time friend and football legend, David Beckham is also piqued to make a cameo – though he’s not present in the trailer.

The original TV series starred Robert Vaughan and David McCallum as a pair of secret agents who work for a fictitious international espionage agency called the United Network Command for Law and Enforcement (UNCLE). It ran for 105 episodes between 1964 and 1968.

The Man From U.N.C.L.E. is set to hit cinemas on 14th August.
