Outside of the Star Trek films, it could be argued that Chris Pine has not had too many successful ventures onscreen. Which is why it is both surprising and pleasing to see that he is in talks to star as the supporting romantic interest in the new Wonder Woman film.
In the origin story directed by Patty Jenkins, it is believed that Pine will play Steve Trevor opposite Gal Gadot’s eponymous heroine. In the source comics, Trevor is an officer in the U.S. Army during World War II – though whether that will be reflected in the movie script is still yet to be determined.
Wonder Woman has had a rocky start to pre-production so far, with mixed reactions to both Gadot’s casting (and her role in the upcoming epic, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice) and the news that original director Michelle Maclaren dropped out over script issues. Currently, Jason Fuchs holds the screenwriting credit.
Wonder Woman will be released in 2017.
