Back in 2011, millions across the globe dashed off to get their hands on a Nintendo 3DS. After the success of the console’s big brother the Nintendo 3DS XL, Nintendo have confirmed the release of the New Nintendo 3DS and 3DS XL. Having sold over 1.4 million of the original consoles, it is no surprise that Nintendo have been working hard to upgrade the system to be faster and better than ever.

The new system will be updated to include the addition of a C stick and ZL/ZR buttons, making it easier to master and control those pesky camera angles on certain games. These new consoles will also be equipped with an inner camera capable of face-tracking, in order to automatically adjust the 3D effects for optimum and comfortable viewing. A brand new processor means that games will run quicker and smoothly. Upcoming games such as Xenoblade Chronicles 3D will be created specifically for the New 3DS and 3DS XL to make use of this newfound power.

In addition, the new consoles will be freshly customisable. The Nintendo New 3DS XL will be available in Metallic Black and Metallic Blue, the New 3DS will be in Black or White. Yet, with the launch of replaceable front and back cover plates, the gamer will never have to be jealous of another’s console design ever again. Nintendo plan to launch twelve different styles and textures, the night of the new console’s launch. Alongside the release of the new consoles, New 3DS XL designs based on The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate Edition will become available in bundles, including the games.

Further to the snazzy customisable options, the Nintendo New 3DS and 3DS XL will have built-in support for amiibo. Amiibo is Nintendo’s range of interactive figures and unlock bonus content for games such as Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS.

The Nintendo New 3DS and 3DS XL will be an essential buy for those yearning for an upgrade, or those that simply wish to increase their console collection.

The new systems and bundles will launch across Europe on 13th February 2015.
