Preview: James Morrison at O2 Guildhall, Southampton

James Morrison is an English singer-songwriter from Derby. His debut album, Undiscovered, was released an entire decade ago, and consists of hit singles such as ‘You Give Me Something’, ‘Wonderful World’ and ‘The Pieces Don’t Fit Anymore’. Previously, Morrison has worked with the likes of Nelly Furtado, Jessie J and Ryan Tedder and has been an enormous presence within the soul and pop-rock industry.

After a significant four year break from the industry, Morrison released his fourth studio album in October last year, entitled Higher Than Here. It poses a completely new – albeit still ultra soulful – sound, which Morrison later described as a ‘ragged’ and a ‘refinement’ of his previous ballads. It includes the recent single ‘Demons’, an uplifting song of praise that aims to capture Morrison’s honest transition from a darker period in his life to a time of hope and acceptance.

With over four top ten hits and two number one albums already in the bag, the rise in success for a comeback album such as Higher Than Here is almost inevitable. Morrison is set to play a string of tour dates in 2016, including Southampton’s very own Guildhall on the 17th March before continuing the European leg of his tour in the UK, Germany and France.
