Preview: BBC Radio 1 – Hackney Weekend – Saturday

0

This weekend hosts the ‘biggest event in Radio 1’s history’ at the Hackney Marshes in West London. Some of the world’s biggest names in music will be taking to one of six stages across Saturday 23rd June and Sunday 24th June 2012. Despite the line-up looking like a pick’n’mix of the stations playlists, it is set to be one of the hottest events of this festival season and is free for the lucky few who managed to get tickets.

The one and only Jay Z will be headlining the ‘Main Stage’ and after all the amazing press from his and Kanye West’s ‘Watch The Throne’ tour I’m sure he will please the crowds. Before him are the likes of Kasabian and special guest Nicki Minaj. I’m sure people will be looking forward to seeing what attire the Superbass singer will be sporting. Before Minaj will be the UK’s new favourite ginger Ed Sheeran, Example, the cheeky duo that is Rizzle Kicks and after not hearing from her for a while, Leona Lewis.

Some highlights from the ‘In New Music We Trust Stage’ are the wonderfully talented Delilah, The ‘seem to be at every festival this year’ Maccabees and headlining will be one half of The White Stripes, Jack White.

The 1Xtra Stage is definitely based more around Hip Hop and R n B with Sean Paul as the headliner, so expect to see some ‘mandemz’ in the crowd bobbing away with their fitted caps. Particular highlights will be The Voice‘s main man will.i.am and it’s guaranteed to ‘get louder’ with DJ Fresh. Emeli Sande will add some much needed femininity to this male heavy, testosterone fuelled line-up.

For those of you who simply want to dance and meet some fellow dance lovers, guess what, there’s a whole arena just for you. The ‘Dance Arena’ will be headlined by Swedish House Mafia. Annie Mac, Calvin Harris and deadmau5 should prove to satisfy all of your dancing needs.

The BBC Introducing Stage is an opportunity for some of the UK’s best new talent to have a chance to perform and finally the Outdoor DJ Stage is exactly what it says on the tin, DJ’s playing outside and there is sure to be another legendary versus battles between Moyles and Westwood.
