Chart round-up: MAGIC! steal number one spot

0

MAGIC! have climbed to number one spot this week, resulting in Cheryl’s ‘Crazy Stupid Love’ falling to second spot. The Canadian reggae band were in last week’s chart, sitting comfortably in second place, but have outsold everyone else this week and have taken the crown. ‘Rude’, the UK’s new number one, is the band’s début single, and marks the beginning of a very promising career.

Also new to the chart is ZHU with ‘Faded’, Bars and Melody’s ‘Hopeful’ and Melissa Steel – featuring Popcaan – with ‘Kisses for Breakfast’ which all enter the chart in the top 10. Ella Henderson, George Ezra, Ariana Grande, Charli XCX and will.i.am & Cody Wise fill the rest of the prestigious top 10, with Henderson’s ‘Ghost’ having now spent eight weeks there.

The biggest climber of the week goes to Ed Sheeran’s ‘Thinking Out Loud’ which jumps a respectable eight places to 20th position. Sheeran’s ‘Don’t’ also climbs this week up to 35th place. The largest fall is awarded to Neon Jungle’s ‘Louder’, which tumbles 12 places in its second week in the chart.

In the album chart, Ed Sheeran clings onto the number one spot for an admirable sixth week, making his chart reign the longest for a British male solo artist since James Blunt back in 2005. Dolly Parton also stays strong in second position with her album, Blue Smoke – The Best Of.

The album chart sees a total of four new entries break the top ten. Eric Clapton and Friends enter the highest in third spot with The Breeze. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ Hypnotic Eye enters in 7th place, with Neon Jungle’s début album behind them in 8th, and David Guetta’s 2009 album Nothing But The Beat re-entering the chart in 9th position.
