With his large physique and bald head, he is one of the most recognisable faces in stand-up comedy. His many TV appearances undeniably have helped. But it is his stand-up shows where Dara O’Briain really shines.
Now well into the second half of his 2015 tour Crowd Tickler, Dara O’Briain has been touring all across the UK as well as in his native Ireland. He kicked off in February at the Cork Opera House and more than three months later he will reach the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton. It’s a large venue, but certainly not arena level. O’Briain has said that he prefers doing smaller venues, possibly for longer stays, than doing huge venues that are just not his style.
Though his personality would have no trouble filling a space like the O2 Arena, his highly praised sets would be ill-suited to it. As intelligent and funny as his routines are, it is in the improvisational audience interaction that the most fun can be had. Riffing gloriously on whatever small fact he finds, they ensure that all his sets are different, and all hilarious.
Tickets for the Mayflower are now sold-out, but future dates are available here
