On the Eighth Day of Christmas…

The Nightmare Before Christmas is probably one of the best films to watch around Christmas time – it is certainly up there with the likes of Elf and Miracle of 34th Street. It’s great because it somehow manages to bridge the holiday gap between Halloween and Christmas, fusing ghouls and ghosts with glitter and magic almost seamlessly.

In one of the best scenes of the movie, where Jack discovers Christmas town, all the various paraphernalia of Christmas are held up to the spotlight, questioning what and why at every turn. Elfman’s music here is outstanding, but we wanted to look at it under a different light.

For the film’s 2006 re-release in Disney Digital 3D a special edition of the soundtrack was released, featuring a bonus disc which contained covers of five of the film’s songs by Fall Out Boy, Panic! at the Disco, and Marilyn Manson. Six original demo tracks by Elfman were also included. It is Fall Out Boy’s cover of ‘What’s This?’ that here features behind door number eight on The EDGE advent calendar. Enjoy!
