Not even a mother could love it.

As the next step of her inexplicable and truly awful world domination, Meghan Trainor’s taking it upon herself to tell us all collectively how her ‘Mom’ (Kelli Trainor, featured on the song in a phone call so fake and sickly, it makes Iggy Azalea seem genuine) is just better than everyone else’s.

Trafficking in the same sort of throw-back 50s rock-and-roll pop sound that ‘Dear Future Husband’ did, and that Olly Murs has been serving up in unobjectionable measures for years, this is about as heartwarming or relatable as watching both Trainors murder elephants for the ivory. Here, they’re murdering a classic style in order to get us to part with our time. “See we go way back” she informs us as the second verse begins, as if she was the only woman to have ever been forcibly ejected from a vagina.  “Ain’t nobody got a mom like mine” Meghan moans in the chorus. Frankly, hers seems so insufferably sweet that no sane listener would want one.

‘Mom’ is out now via Epic Records
