As always, a huge pop anthem, but this time it'll give you déjà vu.
There’s a reason that Sia is so successful: the 39 year old has a talent for writing incomprehensibly catchy pop hits. From ‘Chandelier’ to ‘Titanium’, Rihanna’s ‘Diamonds’ to Jessie J’s ‘Flashlight’ (both of which she co-wrote), Sia knows how to pen an gargantuan anthem.
Her latest offering, ‘Fire Meet Gasoline’ follows on in the same vein as her previous successes. A slow burning introduction, climaxing in a stonking chorus you can belt in the shower and her distinctive husky vocals croaking out some semi-emotive lyrics. And yes, it’ll be going round your head for the next few days, but haven’t we heard it all before? The opening is discernibly similar to ‘Big Girls Cry’, Sia’s previous single, and the chord progression is almost identical to Beyoncé’s ‘Halo’. ‘Fire Meet Gasoline’ is elegantly crafted and expertly produced, it’s just nothing special.
‘Fire Meet Gasoline’ is out now via RCA Records.
