Their first new song in over 2 years, ‘Atlas’ is the single by Coldplay made for the newest film in The Hunger Games series Catching Fire.
A slow paced piano ballad, the song builds intensity until it finishes on a gentle and soothing end. This is a total change from their most recent album, Mylo Xyloto, which was based around synths, samples and fell very much in the ‘pop’ genre. Instead ‘Atlas’ is a return to the early Coldplay album – the Grammy Award winning Parachutes. The return to form is a positive sign from a band who seemed to have left their best days behind them. The song follows on from Taylor Swift’s ‘Safe and Sound’, featuring The Civil Wars, which was the single from the first film (2012’s The Hunger Games) and keeps to its subdued but delicate style
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will be released on 22nd November.
