Vampire Weekend – ‘Diane Young’

0

Vampire Weekend’s latest offering is a toe-tapping tune slightly reminiscent of more upbeat 1950’s jazz. A slicker sound than the crazy pop we know (and love) from the likes of ‘A-Punk’, ‘Diane Young’ has a more mature vibe but is no less infectious and Ezra Koenig’s upbeat vocals maintain the summery sound I for one have come to associate with the band; this track would be perfect as a soundtrack to a barbecue.

The contrasts which run throughout this song also set it apart from Vampire Weekend’s other singles and whilst a jazzy feel is apparent from the offset, the build up to the central instrumental along with Koenig’s howled vocals will definitely get you humming along.

With the band set to release their hotly anticipated third album Modern Vampires In The City on May 14th, this debut single is a definite winner. If you want a cheery, rhythmic summer song to lift you from the depths of revision, then look no further!
