Passion Pit – ‘Carried Away’

0

The second single released from Passion Pit’s second album Gossamer, their latest track ‘Carried Away’ is upbeat, fun and features in one of the best music videos I’ve seen for a long time.

Employing synths reminiscent of earlier iconic songs such as ‘Sleepyhead’, ‘Carried Away’ charts the ups and downs, playing and fighting of a young couple in love, captured perfectly in the indie-flick style video featuring Sophia Bush of American teenage sitcom One Tree Hill fame. However, devoid of the clichés which songs of this theme are usually composed of, Passion Pit’s latest single is polished. On the surface it’s a song about a relationship; upon a few listens you’ll realise that there’s a lot more depth and meaning to the lyrics than first appears.

As front man Michael Angelakos asserts “I don’t really know you/and I don’t really want to/but I think I can fake it if you can,” you can’t help but notice the edgier note to their sound; it’s as though Passion Pit have found their feet. Whilst slightly more alternative than their previous offerings, it firmly places them as a band to be taken seriously. Angelakos has even gone so far as to say it is his favourite song on the record, a broad statement for an album as consistently high quality and energetic as Gossamer.

Passion Pit have developed and refined their sound, with ‘Carried Away’ ensuring high anticipation ensues for what they will have to offer next . Eclectic, toe-tapping and ultimately lovable, their latest single will certainly not disappoint.
