Records Round-Up: 13/07/14 – 19/07/14

The Edge is back with a round-up of albums and singles to be released during the upcoming week. Featuring Morrissey’s tenth solo album, Woman’s Hour’s debut record, and Lily Allen’s satirical ‘URL Badman’, the next few days in the records field offers a mix of sounds and styles.

Morrissey – World Peace Is None Of Your Business

03f7a1f1Morrissey, former lead singer of The Smiths, returns with his tenth solo album, World Peace Is None of Your Business. Four tracks have been released from the upcoming album, all accompanied by spoken word videos. The first single and title track was released 13th May and featured Nancy Sinatra in its video alongside Morrissey performing the track in spoken word. Singles ‘Istanbul’, ‘Earth Is the Loneliest Planet’ and ‘The Bullfighter Dies’ followed. World Peace Is None Of Your Business is available for purchase from 15th July.

Woman’s Hour – Conversations

music-womans-hour-conversations-artwork-packshotThis forthcoming week sees the release of Woman’s Hour’s début album Conversations. The female-fronted quartet, who currently reside in London, were introduced to the music scene with their 2011 tracks ‘Human’ and ‘Jenni’ (which was named after Jenni Murray, presenter of the radio show, Woman’s Hour). They have supported 2011 Mercury Prize nominee, Anna Calvi, and are currently supporting Metronomy on their European tour. Conversations, their first full-length album, will be released 14th July via Secretly Canadian.

Slow Club – Complete Surrender

downloadSheffield duo Slow Club, comprised of multi-instrumentalists Rebecca Taylor and Charles Watson, return with their third full-length album Complete SurrenderThe title track was the first single to be lifted from the album, with its monochrome video featuring the duo at the forefront of the action. Complete Surrender is available to stream on The Guardian’s website, and is officially released 14th July via Caroline International.

Singles

Lily Allen – ‘URL Badman’

Lily-Allen-URL-Badman-2014-1000x1000-300x300‘URL Badman’ is the fifth single to be lifted from Lily Allen’s most recent album SheezusIt follows the likes of hit number one track ‘Somewhere Only We Know’ (originally by Keane) which featured on the John Lewis Christmas advert last year, and ‘Hard Out Here’ which deals with the misogynistic culture of the music industry. ‘URL Badman’ tackles the internet gossip culture prevalent in today’s society, also dealing with cyber-bullying and trolling. Ella Eyre – ‘If I Go’

Screen Shot 2014-07-13 at 09.39.57Ella Eyre was named one of BBC’s Sound of 2014 and also featured on The Edge‘s ‘THE LIST 2014‘. The 20 year-old BRIT School graduate featured as lead vocalist on Rudimental’s 2013 single ‘Waiting All Night’ which reached number one in the UK. Ella Eyre released her début single, ‘Deeper’, as a solo artist in December 2013, and now she’s back with new single ‘If I Go’. 

 

Bipolar Sunshine – ‘Deckchairs On The Moon’

bipolarsunshine-deckchairsBipolar Sunshine – real name Adio Marchant – returns with new single ‘Deckchairs On The Moon’. He was previously the co-vocalist for Kid British but has now established himself as a solo artist under the pseudonym, Bipolar Sunshine. After the release of three EPs since 2013, Bipolar Sunshine is set to release his first full-length album later this year. Watch the video for his new single below.
