Today, it has been confirmed that Zoe Ball will replace Chris Evans as host of the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show. She has said that she is feeling “a crazy mix of elation, wanting to burst into tears, wanting to run away…but mainly thrilled”.

Chris Evans revealed the news himself on the show as part of his ‘great job Wednesday’ segment. Ball, 47, was the first female breakfast host on Radio 1, and will also be the first female breakfast host on Radio 2.

Ball will have a considerable pay rise, from her current salary of between £250,000 and £299,000 to nearer to the £1.6m that Evans was paid last year. However, Ball is apparently not expecting the same salary as Evans, but was “very, very happy with what the BBC are paying me.”

Ball is hoping to continue hosting Strictly: It Takes Two on BBC 2.
