The Edge Reacts To… Thor: Ragnarok trailer!

The first trailer for Thor: Ragnarok, which is bound to be the latest in the line of inevitable film successes from Marvel was released earlier this week.

Boasting multiple plotlines, including a homage to the legendary cult-classic comic storyline Planet Hulk, as well as boasting appearances from Cate Blanchett (Hera), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Jeff Goldblum (The Grandmaster) and also Dr Steven Strange (Beneict Cumberbatch), it seems only a question of how good will Thor: Ragnarok be? Guardians of the Galaxy good? Or more like Age Of Ultron average?

Below, the Edgelings give their views and first impressions on the trailer and whether they give it as big as “Yassss!” as the Asgard thunder god himself.

I think the phrase “Holy Fuck-Nuggets!!” Accurately sums up how bloody awesome this trailer looks. Needless to say, I be hyped.’ – Joshua Harris, Writer.

‘As the third and likely final standalone adventure for Thor I really hope Ragnarok is a brilliant film but I just don’t know how I feel about this trailer. Maybe I’m just weird but I don’t like how closely it resembles Guardians. Guardians is special because of how unique it is and pushing its aesthetics onto Thor (a noticeably darker and more serious character) seems like a cheap way to make a film ‘better’ than it’s not so great predecessor. I’m also a little dubious about the mirroring of Tony Stark’s narration of his third and final outing. I think I’ll just have to wait and see the film to know exactly how I feel about all this. Besides, nothing can be so bad as Dark World… I hope.’ – Laura Woodhouse, Writer.

‘Yaaaaaaaaaassssssssssssss.’– Anneka Honeyball, Editor.

‘Having had the pleasure to speak to Mayes C. Rubeo, the costume designer for this film, I have nothing but amazing thoughts for it. It looks to be focusing on darker comedy and some 4th wall leaning, plus Hera looks genuinely menacing. Plus we get Jeff Goldbae, so there is little that can go wrong to be honest. Unless, you know, Thor actually beats Hulk… – Robert Pratley, News Editor.

Clearly following Guardians, Thor: Ragnarok looks like the fun space adventure that the first two films should have been. With no sign of Natalie Portman or lacklustre Earth scenes, my hype for Thor 3 has been electrified.’ – Josh Nicholson, Writer.

‘This trailer looks epic and it has the stunning visual effects that Marvel films have been known for recently with last year’s Doctor Strange, and this year’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. That being said, Cate Blanchett looks Hela good and I’m loving the lighter humour that’s appears towards the end of an otherwise dark and foreboding trailer. All in all, I don’t think I could be more excited!’ – Holly Hammond, Writer.

Taika Waititi is directing this movie, do you really need any more of a reason to be excited? This trailer just proves what I already thought to be the case for this film; bonkers visuals, great cast and a whole lot of charm. Honestly I think this could be Marvel’s best since Winter Soldier.’ – David Mitchell-Baker, Writer.

‘Awesome trailer with a real Guardians of the Galaxy vibe, and it’ll be cool to see the adaptation of the Planet Hulk storyline from the comics. Given that the last two Thor films have been real duds, I’m surprisingly excited for this!’ – Rob Tucker, Writer.

Verdict: Genuinely a very positive reception for a really cool trailer, which almost seems to be more reminiscent of Guardians of the Galaxy rather than Thor: The Dark World. The final solo outing of the Norse God looks like it is going to go out with a big bang.
