Tom Holland and Ruth Negga are among the nominees in the running for this year’s Rising Star BAFTA award.

Holland is quickly becoming a household name after winning the role of Spiderman in Captain America: Civil War. The 20 year old has also impressed in films such as The Impossible, How I Live Now, Locke and The Heart of The Sea.

Oscar contender Ruth Negga is being recognised for her standout performance in Jeff Nichols’ historical drama, Loving. Her previous film credits include Breakfast on Pluto and Warcraft.

The other nominees for this year’s award include Laia Costa (who made her breakthrough in Victoria), Lucas Hedges (Moonrise Kingdom, The Zero Theorem and Manchester By The Sea) and Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch and Morgan).

The EE Rising Star Award is BAFTA’s way of collaborating with the public to honour the greatest emerging stars of the year. The award was initially introduced in 2006, with its first recipient being James McAvoy, who has since been regarded as one of Britain’s best actors.

The most recent Rising Star recipient was John Boyega in 2016, whose performances in Attack The Block and Star Wars: The Force Awakens won the public vote. Previous Rising Star winners also include Eva Green, Noel Clarke, Kristen Stewart, Tom Hardy, Will Poulter and Jack O’Connell.

Voting is open now via the EE BAFTA website. The rest of the nominations for this year’s BAFTA awards are set to be announced on Tuesday 10th February.

Hosted once again by Stephen Fry, the 2017 BAFTA awards will take place at the Royal Albert Hall on Sunday 12th February.
