Clean Bandit have beaten off Rangers FC, Little Mix, X Factor winner Matt Terry and Rag ‘n’ Bone Man to secure the 2016 Christmas number one single.

The electro-music group’s latest hit ‘Rockabye’, a collaboration with Anne-Marie and Sean Paul secured the prestigious honour with 589,000 chart sales. The various members of Clean Bandit spoke about their triumph, with Grace Chatto saying to Official Charts, “We did think about making a Christmas version, but there wasn’t any need!”

Keyboardist and lead guitarist Jack Patterson also discussed being the Christmas No. 1, stating,  “It’s weird actually, my mum has got this theory about the song being about Jesus, and that Jesus is the baby.” He continued to discuss this interesting idea, adding “She’s talking about this woman who’s looking after the child on her own and saying it’s a bit like Mary – she had the Immaculate Conception – and Joseph is kind of there… but not.”

Behind Clean Bandit, Critics Choice winner Rag ‘n’ Bone Man secured second place with around 579,000 sales in total. Louis Tomlinson and Steve Aoki’s ‘Just Hold On’ dropped to number three, with Little Mix’s ‘Touch’ soaring up the chart to claim fourth, ahead of Mariah Carey’s classic ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ in fifth. Ranger FC-backed ‘Glad All Over’ by The Dave Clark Five finishes in 31st.
