After years of being mostly based on our television screens, Taran Killam is to make his stage debut in the Broadway smash hit Hamilton, taking on the role of King George.

The Saturday Night Live alum is due to step into the role from the 17th January, following multiple changes in the line-up, beginning with Alysha Deslorieux stepping into the role of Peggy Schuyler/Maria Reynolds later this week.

This marks his first major job following his contract from Saturday Night Live not being renewed in August, after a six year tenure. The role of King George was originated on Broadway by Jonathan Groff , and Taran Killam will be the fifth actor to play the role. Killam has previously shown his musical credentials in a staged concert of Little Shop of Horrors, alongside Jake Gyllenhaal.

The show, which has become internationally acclaimed, currently has runs in New York and Chicago, with productions in San Francisco and London also having plans underway. As well as this, the recently released Hamilton Mixtape saw its debut on the Billboard charts at no. 1.
