Matt Damon has announced that he is to appear in the new film Ocean’s Eight, in a cameo which will revive his character from Ocean’s Eleven, Linus Caldwell.

The new film, a reboot of the classic heist films, but with a predominantly female cast, has already rounded up a host of huge names to star, including Sandra Bullock, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway, Cate Blanchett and Mindy Kaling.

Damon revealed in an interview with Entertainment Tonight of the film: “I’m doing a little bit in the movie. I haven’t read it yet, but the cast is phenomenal and I’m excited to see what those women do with it. It’s going to be fun.”

The film is to be directed by Gary Ross, and shooting is currently underway, though there is yet to be a release date given. It follows on the heels of the recently remade Ghostbusters, featuring an all female bill, which received generally favourable reviews despite the controversy surrounding it.
