The brains behind The Academy of Motion Picture Arts in association with 360 Degrees Media have launched an Academy Masterclass programme.

The workshops are designed specifically to focus on the technical aspects involved in Film Production. Th first session, which was held at Sheffield Hallam University was hosted by Simon Hayes and Chris Munro, who won Oscars for Les Miserables and Black Hawk Down & Gravity respectively.

Speaking about the project, Carola Ash, the Academy’s European Director said: ‘We are keen to work with our Members to reach out to as wide and a diverse cross-section of young people as possible’, before adding, ‘This is one of a number of initiatives across the UK as the Academy seeks to execute its educational remit and these Academy Members, many of whom are Oscar winners, are keen to share their years of experience. The mission of the Academy is to inspire imagination, and connect the world through the medium of motion pictures. These masterclasses hope to serve that aim.’

360 Degrees Managing Director Alistair Maclean-Clark also commented on the project saying: ‘We hope we will inspire a whole new generation of film and television professionals and nurture a digital and creative culture in a region that has long been a crucible of industrial know how and expertise.’

The next session is yet to be announced, but follow http://www.360degreesmedia.com for any further updates. Check out a trailer for Les Mis below, and admire the beauty of the film.
