The first trailer for Trainspotting 2, the sequel to Danny Boyle’s classic black comedy has been released today.

Boyle’s sequel, which is based on Irvine Welsh’s sequel Porno features all the familiar cast; Ewan McGregor returns as Mark ‘Rentboy’ Renton, and is accompanied by Daniel ‘Spud’ Murphy (Ewan Bremmer), Simon ‘Sickboy’ Williamson (Jonny Lee Miller) and Francis ‘Franco’ Begbie (Robert Carlyle)- who unsurprisingly is still a very angry man.

In an interview last year with NME, Robert Carlye (Francis Begbie), said of the film: “It’s one of the best scripts I’ve fucking read,” adding, “This film is going to be quite emotional for people …You are going to be thinking, ‘fuck. What have I done with my life?’ Have these four characters changed? Have they remained the same? Have they fucked it up completely? Have they achieved anything? And of course the audience are going to be asking themselves exactly the same questions.”

The newest trailer also has the classical voice-over narration which made the first film so successful and iconic- although there are several new notable additions to the monologue. ‘Choose life… choose reality TV, slut shaming, revenge porn, choose a zero hour contract, choose a two-hour journey to work and choose the same for your kids only worse’, with further references to Facebook and Twitter give it a distinctly modern feel.

Trainspotting 2 is released in the UK on 27th January 2017. Check out the first trailer below:
