Kevin Feige calls Captain Marvel “the strongest character” yet

Kevin Feige has said Captain Marvel will be the “strongest” MCU character.

Marvel’s The Avengers already boast an impressive line-up of characters from the genius Iron Man, Tony Stark, to the Star-Spangled Captain America, Steve Rogers, to the more obviously imposing, Incredible Hulk. Yet, Marvel boss, Kevin Feige calls Captain Marvel the strongest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe we’ve seen yet.

Following the announcement that Oscar winner, Brie Larson, will take up the titular role as Carol Danvers, also known as Captain Marvel, Feige spoke of the characters we’ve come to know and love, saying: “It’s very important to us that all of our heroes do not become silhouette-perfect cutout icons.” He went on to add that, “All of the Marvel characters have flaws to them, all of them have a deep humanity to them.”

Feige went on to talk more specifically about what we can expect from the character in her upcoming film: “With Captain Marvel, she is as powerful a character as we’ve ever put in a movie. Her powers are off the charts, and when she’s introduced, she will be by far the strongest character we’ve ever had. It’s important, then, to counterbalance that with someone who feels real. She needs to have a humanity to tap into, and Brie can do that.”

Much is currently unknown about the film, Captain Marvel, yet this will be the first completely female-led Marvel venture in the current MCU. Little is known apart from the fact that Larson will be playing the main role as announced earlier this year at San Diego Comic-Con On the topic of confirming a director for the film, Feige said expects “to have a director by the end of the year.” He continued on to say: “We’ve been meeting amazing filmmakers, but often the way we work, as was the case on Doctor Strange and most of our movies, is that we have a… I don’t want to say a ‘road map,’ but we have a general view of what the movie is and then we meet with filmmakers and share that with them and then they pitch it back to us in a better fashion.”

Marvel’s Captain Marvel will be released in to cinemas 8th March, 2019. Watch the announcement at San Diego Comic-Con below:
