Game of Thrones star Kit Harington is being eyed to star in new BBC mini-series following the failed attempt made by Guy Fawkes to blow up the Houses of Parliament in 1605, with Harington portraying the lead man Fawkes. The project, tentatively titled ‘Gunpowder‘, is being made in conjunction with Kudos, the production company behind Broadchurch, Grantchester and Humans.

Harington was apparently interested in writing his own screenplay about the attempt made by Guy Fawkes and fellow plotters on the Houses of Parliament, possibly because he is a direct descendent of Robert Catesby, one of the plotters alongside Fawkes.

Guy Fawkes collaborated with Catesby to assassinate the current protestant monarch, James I by blowing up the Houses of Parliament, and restoring a Catholic hegemony as a result. However their plans failed and Guy Fawkes was hung, drawn and quartered, and Catesby was shot.

It is thought that Harington’s personal project is not related to this BBC mini-series currently being developed, which does not yet have a writer attached to it.
