True Blood‘s Joe Manganiello has today been announced as Deathstroke in the untitled solo Batman film.

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, DC mogul Geoff Johns has today revealed that Manganiello will play the main villain in Ben Affleck’s upcoming solo Batman film. Speculation had been rife about Manganiello taking on the role since he retweeted the teaser trailer which Affleck recently revealed on Twitter.

Further speculation had been created following sightings of Manganiello close to where the Justice League film was recently being shot. Johns did confirm that Manganiello would take on the role as Slade Wilson for the solo Batman film, but refused to confirm if he would first appear in the Justice League two-partner.

The masked assassin was originally mooted to be appearing in this August’s DC release Suicide Squad, but in the end this did not come to fruition. However, with Johns co-writing the Batman film along with Affleck, and suggestions that both the Joker and Deadshot, played in Suicide Squad by Jared Leto and Will Smith respectively, it is possible that all three villains could appear in the solo film.

  1. Joe definitely looks the part and looks like he could nail the role. Its a shame Warner Bros. still hasn’t given the Deathstroke spin-off movie an official green light. Can’t wait to see him in action.
