The Inbetweeners voted people’s favourite Noughties sitcom

Following a recent DigitalSpy poll, The Inbetweeners has been crowned the people’s favourite sitcom of the 2000s.

The classic British comedy received over 2,200 of the 25,000 votes, beating The Office (UK) to the top spot, with Gavin & Stacey coming in a close third.

The highest-ranking US sitcom was The Big Bang Theory in fourth place, with another British original The IT Crowd in fifth. Peep Show, Outnumbered and Scrubs all made the top ten, but avid fans of How I Met Your Mother will be disappointed to know that it missed out on that top-ten place by just one vote. Less popular shows include My Name is Earl (25th), Green Wing (28th) and Two and a Half Men (31st).

It seems that the crude, awkward and hapless moments of teenage life are what makes the general public laugh the most. Or perhaps it’s the relief that shitting yourself in an exam or throwing up all over your crush’s little brother wasn’t part of your own adolescence, which makes The Inbetweeners such a clear favourite.

The Inbetweeners joins Friends (1990s) and Red Dwarf (1980s) in the winner’s circle. Watch some of the sitcom’s best moments below.
