Sony Pictures and Square Enix have released a new trailer for the upcoming animated movie Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV.

The film, starring the voice talents of Sean Bean (The Lord of the Rings trilogy), Lena Headey (Game of Thrones) and Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad), is based on the story and setting of Square Enix’s upcoming RPG Final Fantasy XV, released worldwide on September 30th. The synopsis of the film reads as follows:

“The magical kingdom of Lucis is home to the sacred Crystal, and the menacing empire of Niflheim is determined to steal it. King Regis of Lucis (Sean Bean) commands an elite force of soldiers called the Kingsglaive. Wielding their king’s magic, Nyx (Aaron Paul) and his fellow soldiers fight to protect Lucis. As the overwhelming military might of the empire bears down, King Regis is faced with an impossible ultimatum – to marry his son, Prince Noctis to Princess Lunafreya of Tenebrae (Lena Headey), captive of Niflheim, and surrender his lands to the empire’s rule. Although the king concedes, it becomes clear that the empire will stop at nothing to achieve their devious goals, with only the Kingsglaive standing between them and world domination.”

The trailer promises some truly stunning animation, and excellent voice-work from three highly talented actors, with a focus also on realistic settings and character designs, not to mention attention to detail of the action.

Released on July 9th through Aniplex in Japanese cinemas, Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV will receive a limited theatrical release from August 19th in North America through Stage 6 Films. It will available via Digital HD on August 30th and on DVD, Blu-ray and Steelbook from September 30th, to coincide with the release of Final Fantasy VX on various gaming platforms.
