Steven Spielberg and Amblin Productions developing alien invasion thriller

Steven Spielberg is not one to shy away from his work behind the big screen, with the announcement of his next project bringing no surprise.

The acclaimed director has already had a successful 2016, and we’re only just half way through it. The BFG was released last weekend, which he’d been working on as well as producing Jurassic World, All The Way and a slew of TV work in 2015. He already has projects lined up for next year as well as this new announcement: his next film Ready Player One, and will executively produce the next Michael Bay film, Transformers: The Last Knight.

Empire has confirmed that amongst these projects, Spielberg and his production team Amblin are developing an alien invasion thriller entitled The Fall. So far, we know the film is centered around a divorced couple, who have to save their home-alone children in the beginning of an alien invasion. From that brief description alone, it already brings up the potential for The Fall through Spielberg’s adaptation of War of the Worlds back in 2005.

There are no inklings as to who will star in the film or produce it, nor that Spielberg himself will be directing it. Hopefully he does, seeing as this is literally a Spielberg film through and through, just from reading the premise.

Remind yourselves of Spielberg’s re-imagining of War of the Worlds below.
