Pixies took to Facebook this morning to announce their new record Head Carrier, due for release this September.

Head Carrier will mark the second album since their reunion in 2004. The band released new material in 2014 with the record Indie Cindy, whilst also releasing three four-track ‘Eps’ before the album’s release. Head Carrier will be the first fully conceived record since their seminal 1991 release Trompe le Monde.

The 2016 record is the first record (since the Pixies started in 1986) in which the songs were fully conceived ahead of recording. The band spent six weeks in pre-production: writing, composing and eventually whittling the record down to 12 songs.

Head Carrier is also the first Pixies record to feature bassist Paz Lenchantin, of A Perfect Circle and Zwan. Pixies have gone through three bassists since 2013, with original band member Kim Deal being replaced with Kim Shattuck, who was in turn was replaced by Lenchantin in 2014.

The first single from Head Carrier – ‘Um Chagga Lagga’ is available to stream now via the band’s Soundcloud. Listen to the song below:
