Dave Grohl saved from embarrassment by Taylor Swift at McCartney gig – watch

During a solo set at the international advertising festival Cannes Lions, Dave Grohl told the hilarious, and somewhat unsurprising tale of the time singer Taylor Swift saved him from embarrassing himself in front of Sir Paul McCartney.

During his performance, Grohl set aside some time to tell the audience about the time he attended a party at McCartney’s house, where Grohl may have been more than slightly stoned. McCartney took to the piano to perform a new song, inviting Grohl to join him.

Grohl began to freak out, as at the time he had no idea how to play the instrument, and couldn’t play any of McCartney’s guitars comfortably, since they were all left-handed. Luckily, Swift came up from the audience and offered to play a song, which inevitably turned out to be a Foo Fighters track.

Grohl told the audience “I was like, ‘Oh thank God! Taylor Swift is here. Like fucking Batman when you need him!”

He followed: “So she gets up at the piano and I thought, ‘Okay, I’ll jam with her. So I pick up one of Paul’s left-handed basses, I’m super high, she starts playing, and I’m just trying to figure out how to play along with her. It was kinda like one of those nightmares where you’re running backwards.”

Grohl then goes on to express his utter disbelief that Swift began playing a Foo Fighters song: “She was playing this really beautiful song on the piano. I look at my wife and I’m like, ‘I know this fucking song.’ And she was fucking played our song ‘Best of You’. As if I weren’t high enough that fucking blew me into outer space. I just lost my mind. So I felt obligated to sit next to her and duet.

“She’s got a good voice she can sing. So I next to her and did this…” then Grohl continued into a stripped-down version of ‘Best of You’. See the hilarious video below.
