Fall Out Boy release new revamped theme song for Ghostbusters reboot – listen

Fall Out Boy have released their latest single ‘Ghostbusters (I’m Not Afraid)’, which collaborates with pop singer Missy Elliot, as part of the soundtrack for the upcoming Ghostbusters reboot.

The Chicago born four-piece announced their part in the film’s soundtrack listing on 2nd June on their social media to the excitement of their many fans. Joining Fall Out Boy on the soundtrack are Five Seconds of Summer, Elle King and Zayn.

The track is a re-imagining of the 1984 film’s theme song, written and recorded by Ray Parker Jr., which was nominated for Best Original Song at the 57th Academy Awards. The new theme song, with a multitude of distortion pedals, a pummelling drum beat, and frontman Patrick Stump’s distinctive vocals, takes everything that once was cheesy about the track and replaces it with a pounding, in-your-face anthem.

Like the reboot overall, reactions to the new theme song have been mixed, with many criticising its departure from the more carefree tone of the original, whilst others have been convinced to see the film after listening to the song, upon its release next month.

Directed by Paul Feig and starring Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon, the Ghostbusters reboot is released in the UK on 15th July.

Listen to the track below. The entire soundtrack will be released on 15th July, and is available to pre-order now on ITunes, Amazon and Google Play.
