Star Trek actor Anton Yelchin has died, aged 27

Anton Yelchin has tragically died at the age of 27.

The actor, who is probably best known for playing Pavel Chekov in the rebooted Star Trek franchise, was killed in a fatal traffic collision early this morning.

His publicist, Jennifer Allen, confirmed the news in a statement: “Actor Anton Yelchin was killed in a fatal traffic collision early this morning. His family requests you respect their privacy at this time.”

A charismatic actor on the rise, Yelchin began his acting career aged 9 in the independent film, A Man is Mostly Water. In recent years, Yelchin has appeared in such films as Charlie Bartlett, Alpha Dog, Along Came A Spider, Like Crazy, Fright Night, Only Lovers Left Alive, The Smurfs and Terminator: Salvation.

Most recently, he appeared in the critically acclaimed horror film, Green Room. His final film, Star Trek Beyond, is set to be released next month.
