Peter Kay’s Car Share to return for a second series

Car Share, the hugely successful BBC comedy starring comedian Peter Kay, is returning for a second series.

Peter Kay will be rejoined by Sian Gibson for the new episodes, which will film over the summer for airing in 2017.

The comedy series is fresh from winning Best Scripted Comedy at the BAFTA awards. The recommissioned episodes will be four 30 minute episodes, that will premiere in its entirety on BBC iPlayer, before making its way to BBC One.

Peter Kay won this year’s Best Comedy Actor award at the BAFTAs for his role as John, a supermarket manager, who car shares with his employee Kayleigh (Gibson). Viewers were captivated in watching a romantic bond form between the lonely pair as they traveled to work and back each day, listening to the cheesy tunes of ‘Forever FM’. This simplistic yet genius comedy had the most watched debut of a comedy series since 2011 and received positive reviews from many TV critics.

Peter Kay clearly was pleased by the re-commission of the comedy series and commented: ‘What a joy to be working on the second series of Car Share with the wonderful Sian Gibson. The success of the first series has been completely overwhelming.’

Peter Kay’s Car Share will return at some point in 2017. See John and Kayleigh’s comical first meeting below.
