After months of speculation, Doctor Who‘s newest companion has finally been revealed.

In a short clip from the upcoming series, which aired during the half time segment of the FA Cup semi-final, it was revealed that Pearl Mackie will be playing the Time Lord’s latest companion, Bill.

In the clip, Bill runs alongside Peter Capaldi’s Doctor, fleeing from a predatory Dalek. As is the usual companion schtick, Bill is quick to make assumptions about the alien’s ridiculous appearance and catchphrase.

Relatively unknown to most TV audiences, Mackie graduated from the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in 2010, and is currently appearing in the West End production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time. Her other television credits include bit parts on Doctors and Svengali.

Mackie replaces Jenna Coleman, who played the Doctor’s previous companion, Clara Oswald, from 2012-2015.

Doctor Who: Series 10 – which will be Steven Moffat’s last series as showrunner – is set to air in 2017.
