Legendary artist Prince has died aged 57

The legendary artist Prince has sadly died at the age of 57.

The musician was found dead at his home in suburban Minneapolis on Thursday, his publicist has confirmed. The condition of the singer’s health has been widely speculated within last week, after he was hospitalized due to serious flu-like symptoms.

The singer, songwriter and instrumentalist was widely acclaimed as one of the most inventive musicians of his era. Among his hits were such pop and rock classics as ‘Purple Rain’, ‘Kiss’, ‘I Wanna Be Your Lover’, ‘Little Red Corvette’ and ‘When Doves Cry.’

Prince – whose full name was Prince Rogers Nelson – also won the Academy Award for Best Original Song Score in 1984 and wrote the themes for Tim Burton’s Batman films.

The cause of his death has yet to be confirmed.
