Kendrick Lamar drops surprise new album

Multi Grammy Award-winning artist Kendrick Lamar has dropped a surprise new album entitled Untitled Unmastered.

The eight-track record features outtakes from the highly successful To Pimp A Butterfly, which was released in March of last year. The album doesn’t appear to be a standalone record, instead appearing more as a compliment to an album many considered to be the best of 2015.

None of the tracks on the record have specific titles, instead just having ‘untitled [track number]’ followed by the date the track was recorded on. Interestingly, it appears that the release of the album could be as a result of former NBA MVP LeBron James calling out Lamar’s record label boss, Anthony Tiffith, after Lamar’s politically-charged Grammy’s performance, which featured a verse alluding to the 2012 shooting of Trayvon Martin. James said on Twitter: “you have to release those untitled tracks asap!!!”

Tiffith replied to say that he would think about it before hinting in an Instagram post earlier this week that a new release was coming: “I’ve decided to drop a project one day this week. I won’t say what day or who.” He later said to fans that they should thank the 12x NBA All Star forward for the release of the record.

Untitled Unmastered is available now via Aftermath and Interscope records. Watch Kendrick Lamar’s video for ‘Alright’, one of the songs he performed at this year’s Grammy’s, below:
