Following a Nintendo Direct broadcast, the next instalments in the Pokémon series – Pokémon Sun and Moon – have been announced for release in late 2016.

The logos and trademarks for the games were leaked a day before the announcement. Many fans are expecting Pokémon Sun and Moon to act as a continuation from Kalos but in a completely new region, complete with new Pokémon.

New Pokémon Magearna was previously revealed in the February issue of CoroCoro, and screenshots from the Nintendo Direct video shows what appears to be a new bird-like Pokémon.

Intriguingly, Nintendo Direct also revealed that Pokémon caught on the eShop re-releases of Pokémon Red, Blue and Yellow will be transferable to Pokémon Sun and Moon through the Pokémon Bank. This feature will be exclusive to Pokémon Sun and Moon, essentially allowing Generation 1 Pokémon to be transferred directly from their Game Boy engine format to the most technologically developed 3DS Pokémon game to date.
