The Edge Reacts To… The first full trailer for Daredevil: Season Two

Ahead of it’s release next month, Netflix have unveiled the first full trailer for the second season of their massively acclaimed show, Daredevil. In the two-minute teaser – which is only part one of two trailers – we are treated to an exclusive first look at Jon Bernthal’s new character, Frank Castle, who is perhaps better known by his alias, The Punisher. In several tantalising clips, we are given a taste of the intense and complex rivalry between The Punisher and Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) and how far both are willing to go to achieve their own individual ideals of justice… But what did our writers think?

“The depth and darkness of the Netflix series shines here more than ever. Finally a perfect platform for The Punisher. This shit is gonna get brutal.” – Ben Robins, Film Editor.

“Looks good. See I don’t hate everything!” – Harrison Abbott, Culture Editor.

“Seeing two minutes worth of Jon Bernthal as The Punisher is already SO much better than the 2004 film (Sorry Thomas Jane!!!). In all seriousness though, I reckon this series will have so much more complexity in regards to the development of Daredevil and The Punisher and their contrasts of morality.” – Sean McDonnell, writer.

“I can’t stop watching it in complete awe. For some reason, I was worried about introducing a new kind of villain after Vincent D’Onofrio’s sensational turn as Wilson Fisk, but boy has this trailer sold me on The Punisher: ‘You hit ’em and they get back up, I hit ’em and they stay down!!’ – The conflict between Murdock and Castle is going to be so fascinating to watch. And did you catch that end scene with Elektra?? I’m not sure if I’m sold on the blossoming romance between Matt and Karen, but I’m still so, so excited. OH GOD. COME ON MARCH, WE NEED YOU NOW.” – Anneka Honeyball, News Editor.

“*sigh* Does this mean I’m going to have to binge watch the entire first series and second series in one go? Very well then…” – David Mitchell-Baker, writer.

“Yes. Yes. YES. All the yes’s. Everything I loved about the first season: The action, the darkness, the theology, Charlie Cox’s beautifully stubbled jaw… all of it is seen in abundance in this trailer and I cannot wait to see how season two unfolds. Also, Jon Bernthal looks incredible, and I think his extra dynamic within what is an already stellar cast, is going to be warmly welcomed by fans.” – Rehana Nurmahi, writer.

“Daredevil looks once again to set the bar higher in terms of punchy and charged excitement. Punisher’s brutality and Murdock’s rightousness will make for an epic personality clash.” – Robert Pratley, writer.

“I love this! Daredevil sticks out from all other TV series in the best way possible. Unlike other superhero movies and series, it is not black and white as to who’s bad and who’s good and you get to understand the villains with as much depth as the vigilante, Matt Murdock. I love the idea that Daredevil’s good intentions might be catching up with him in the new season. In addition, the eerie music and the darkness in the trailer is mesmerizing and I just can’t wait for the second season to commence!” – Brunna Pimentel, writer.

The Verdict: To be frank, we’re too fucking excited for this. GIVE IT TO US NOW, NETFLIX.

Daredevil: Season 2 will launch on Netflix from 18th March. The first season is available to watch now.
